Energy law regulates the legal relations related to the production, transmission, distribution, supply, and consumption of energy. It encompasses the fields of electricity, natural gas, oil, and renewable energy sources, and regulates both public and private legal issues. Within the framework of energy law, licensing rules, tariff regulation, conditions of access to the market, consumer rights, relations with regulatory bodies, and the investment and contractual framework related to energy projects are determined.
Energy lawyers provide complex legal services, including compliance with regulatory requirements and obtaining permits, preparation and negotiation of contracts for energy projects, project financing and tax (tax equity) structures, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions, environmental permits and licensing, consulting on land use and zoning issues, dispute resolution and litigation, joint operating agreements, as well as relations with state bodies. They also advise on power purchase agreements (PPA), energy storage projects, and the protection of intellectual property of energy technologies.
